In their tour visiting battlefield and memorials Alfred and his colleagues visited the impressive Memorial to the 50th Northumbrian Division not far from Ypres in the hamlet of Wieltje, Belgium.

The memorial is a plain white pillar, standing beside a farm on a windswept hillside.
An addition was made to the memorial to include the Divisions role in the Second World War.
