William & Janet Clark's Children - Janet - Janet & Luke's Children - Jenny

JENNY DENT - My Mam

Jennie, was Luke and Janet's first child, who was born on the 17th August 1917 at 1 Parmontley Street, Scotswood, Newcastle upon Tyne.

This photograph is over 100 years old.  It was in a terrible condition.  Grandma had written on the back "Jenny at six months old". She was Christened Janet, but always called Jenny, as a means of differentiating her from my Grandma who was also Janet.  When doing up photos you can see things you probably would never notice, - my mam is wearing the tiniest silver ring.  Her dress looks as if it is cotton with pretty edging.

I wonder who the flowers were for?  Jenny in a very 'fetching cloche hat and gloves with a modern 1920's matching coat.  The background rather spoils the photograph.

This photograph taken around 1922 - my mam looks around 5 years old - when I blew it up I was amazed at the clarity.  What struck me is the gargantuan ribbon my Grandma has managed to tie in her hair, somehow a halo has been created around my mam's head, which seems to emanate from the ribbon.  Great blazer with leather edging! and her dress looks as if it has been knitted.

My mam taken in 1924 aged about 7.  It was actually taken on her birthday (must have been shortly after her return from Peru). Grandma had written on the back of the photograph "taken outside Mrs Bell's on Jenny's 7th birthday. I must admit her huge bow ribbon just finishes her off.  This is a very happy little girl.
