In 1973 Eleanor retired from Fenwick's Ltd, the large department Store in Newcastle upon Tyne. She enjoyed her time working there and had many friends, she even went to Spain on holiday with them. Fenwick's paid her pension for 32 years.

This was a tiny poor quality photograph of Eleanor in Spain circa early 1960s with work colleagues |

In 1882 John James Fenwick purchased a doctor's house at 5 Northumberland Street in Newcastle upon Tyne. It cost him £181.4s.0d to convert the house into a shop, becoming one of Britains first department stores. It soon expanded, along with other properties on Northumberland Street. In 1891 Fenwick opened a second department store on New Bond Street, London; the first of many Fenwick department stores around the country. Fenwick Newcaslte is famous for its Christmas Window on Northumberland Street during the festive season.

This photograph, although poor quality is just so nostalgic. It was taken at our first house in Morpeth on Boxing Day around 1984. My family - Dad Norman, my mam Jean, my husband Allan, my daughter Elise and Auntie Eleanor with my sister Dorothy sitting on the floor. We have all finished our lunch and are huddled around the gas fire, playing a game. Elise would be about 6 or 7 years old. You can see the one and only real Christmas Tree I ever bought, it made so much mess, from then on I always had an artificial tree.

This final photograph was taken in around 1990 at Greenside Community Centre who are holding an Old Folks Christmas Lunch. By this time Eleanor (far right) would be in her 80s. Next to her was her good friend and next door neighbour Beattie Newland. Unfortunately I don't know the rest of the people. Must admit they were 'done proud' - the table is beautifully decorated with candles and table settings.

Eleanor lived a long life, and died at the age of 92 in 2005. I am pleased to say that we became really good friends when we both took care of my dad. Her beloved brother, 'wor Norman'. This brother and sister saw each other every day for 79 years until Norman's death.
